Former NBA player Lorenzen Wright found dead – police say it appears to be from a self inflicted gun shot wound.

Thursday, July 29th, 2010
Lorenzen Wright, a former NBA player has been found dead on Wednesday in a wooded area off  Winchester rd and Hacks Cross about 15 miles outside of Memphis.
His body was found almost a week after his mother reported him missing.  According to Police there was some confusion when his father reported he was in Europe on vacation after his mother had reported that he was missing.

Eyewitnesses say that Wright, 34, appears to have died from a self inflicted gun shot wound.  The 911 call reporting a body found, has been passed over to the Memphis police, who are investigating his death.  The incident was originally called in to Germantown police.

Wright was apparently having financial problems and reportedly his house had been foreclosed on.

Wright was the 7th overall draft in 1996 and played for several teams during his 13 years in the NBA, including the Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings and later for the Cleveland Cavaliers during the 2008-2009 season.

Connecticut News Channel 8 reported that foul play was considered at the time Wright had gone missing, but police report that they do not believe foul play was involved after examining the scene.

Chad Jones, Giants rookie; hurt in New Orleans crash

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Chad Jones, underwent surgery for a broken left leg and ankle Friday following a motor vehicle accident in which his SUV smashed into a pole.

The two-sport star, was admitted to the LSU Public Hospital in New Orleans in a guarded condition. Rocky Arceneaux, his agent, disclosed the injuries to The Associated Press.

The 21-year-old player was alert when taken to the hospital and was still in surgery in the early afternoon.

It is unclear what caused Jones to lose control of his vehicle at around 6 a.m. on a six-lane thoroughfare with a streetcar line on the west side of the city, a police spokeswoman said.

Jones was extracted from the vehicle.  The two other men riding with him were fine.  Harper said it was too early in the investigation to know if Jones was speeding, and police will run toxicology reports to see if alcohol was a factor.

Jones signed with the Giants just last week.

We are impressed – Jordan Romero climbs Everest at 13!

Saturday, May 22nd, 2010

Posted by Fleur De Lys on May 22 2010.

He’s just 13 and on Saturday he became the youngest person ever to have climbed and conquer Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain. His name is Jordan Romero, lives in Big Bear, California and has succeeded in scaling the 8,850 meter mountain from the Tibetan side.

In the same day, the Nepali guide, Apa Sherpa (50 years old), broke the world record for the most number of successful Everest attempts, 20. While climbing the mountain, he had a banner to raise awareness of the environmental impact on the Himalayas due to climate change.

Romero is not going to stop until he’ll climb all the highest mountains on all continents. He had already climbed five peaks: Mount Kilimanjaro in 2006, Elbrus in 2007, Aconcagua in 2007, Denali in 2008, Carstensz Pyramid in 2009 and Everest in 2010.

The next step is to climb the highest peak in Antarctica. The 13-year-old boy was with his father, Paul, a paramedic and Sherpa guides when he climbed the world’s highest mountain.

Titans select Hun School’s Myron Rolle in the sixth round

Saturday, April 24th, 2010

Dave Martin/Associated PressMyron Rolle catches a pass during Senior Bowl practice in January.Where in this year’s Draft Myron Rolle would be selected was a point of major debate this spring. The answer is in the sixth round.

After taking a year off from football to study at Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, the former Florida State safety was selected by the Titans with the last pick of the sixth round, 207th overall.

“I had just taken a nap because I was waiting so long today,” Rolle said. “I had just gotten up, I saw the 615 area code, and they said ‘Myron, are you ready to be a Titan?’ I said, ‘Absolutely.’ ”

Raised in Galloway Township native and a graduate of The Hun School, Rolle earned Associated Press third-team all-America honors in 2008. Rolle studied at Oxford and continued to pursue his goal of becoming a neurologist, but the decision led to some in NFL circles questioning his commitment to football.

“It’s not really so much to prove people wrong, it’s to maximize my own ability and potential,” Rolle said. “I’m athletic, tough and physical, and obviously I have a little bit of intelligence. Now it’s time to put away any enmity toward people in the league and be positive, focus on being competitive and successful. This has been my dream since I was 6.”

Bergen Catholic grad and Stanford tight end Jim Dray was picked by the Cardinals in the seventh round (233rd overall), one pick before the Cowboys took Dumont’s Sean Lissemore, a defensive tackle from William & Mary. Former Rutgers linebacker Ryan D’Imperio was taken 237th overall by the Vikings.
