Sunday, October 10th, 2010

USAC driver Shane Hmiel, 30 was reported to be in a stable but critical condition following a bad crash that occurred on Saturday night, during the qualifying stage at Terre Haute, Indiana.  According to USAC officials Hmiel somehow managed to flip in turns three and four, bouncing the top of his roll cage off the wall.

Initial reports claimed that the once banned driver was not responding at the scene of the accident.  Hmiel was airlifted to an Indianapolis medical center in critical condition, placed in a medically induced coma, and received treatment.

Another update came at around 2:30am this morning (Sunday, October 10th), which said that Shane was awake and moving his arms. However, reports say that Hmiel has broken his neck in two places, and broken his back as well.
