‘Seinfeld’ Actor Bill Erwin Dies at 96
Bill Erwin, has passed away from age-related causes at his home in Studio City California on Dec 29th. The actor was 96.
After a long theater and television that spanned half a century and included roles on Gunsmoke, The Twilight Zone, Perry Mason, The Golden Girls, Growing Pains, Who’s the Boss? and My Name Is Earl, it was his guest appearance as a grumpy old man on Seinfeld that finally earned him an Emmy nomination.
Bill will also be remembered for is his bellman character Arthur in the 1980 film Somewhere in Time. The actor would frequently return to the set at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Mich. to celebrate with fans.
He was born in Texas in 1914 and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Texas at Austin in 1935.
He changed direction and studied acting at the Pasadena Playhouse.
